Joyful Journey

Project type

Performance

Date

July 2026

Location

Brussels

Joyful Journey is a hybrid, participatory street performance and workshop that explores joy as a form of resistance through dance, music, and collective experience. Rooted in Afro-Cuban traditions such as rumba, salsa, and orisha practices, the project brings together professional dancers and live percussionists to create a vibrant, open-air encounter.

The performance unfolds as a journey through rhythm, storytelling, and interaction, where the audience is gradually invited to shift from spectators to active participants. Through simple movement phrases, call-and-response singing, games, and improvisation, the public becomes part of a shared, evolving choreography. Inspired by figures such as Eleguá and Oshún, the piece playfully reflects on themes of inclusion, exclusion, privilege, and connection—without becoming didactic, but rather through embodied experience.

Alongside the performance, we offer an inclusive dance animation with live percussion, accessible to all ages and levels. The workshop creates a welcoming space to explore rhythm, coordination, and expression, while fostering connection between participants.

The atmosphere of Joyful Journey is festive, warm, and inviting—blurring the line between performance, ritual, and celebration. It transforms public space into a place of encounter, where joy becomes a shared language and a powerful tool for bringing people together.
